Hardness Measurement

Hardness Measurement – 8-hour training course

Content

  • Introduction (what is hardness testing, relationship with (tensile) strength, how is hardness affected (temperature, mechanical treatments))
  • History – types of hardness (Mohs, Brinell, Vickers, Rockwell, Knoop and conversion tables)
  • Mobile hardness testers – including Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) for Microdur, Rebound (Leeb) (at Equotip / Dyna), Through Indenter Viewer (from Krautkramer). Also operation, features, advantages and disadvantages
  • In the field – work preparation, calibration and verification, measurement including welds, common mistakes, etchings, reliability and accuracy
  • Reporting – Site Rep, which items are relevant in reporting
  • Case – comparing measurements

Benefits
Highly practical course equipping trainees with the capability to measure the hardness of materials using Applus+ RTD technology. This course examines the key methods – Rebound, Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) and Through Indenter viewer (TIV) – used in measuring hardness, which is vital to evaluating the strength properties of industrial materials.
